the ten mile lake association

Founded in 1952, TMLA was Minnesota’s first lake association to receive 501(C)(3) nonprofit status and has been a leader in lake stewardship for 75 years. Today, our work is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and committees whose efforts support water quality, environmental stewardship, education, and community engagement. From our annual meeting to volunteer projects throughout the year, our members continue to play an essential role in protecting the lake we all love.

Whether you're a lifelong member, a seasonal resident, or discovering Ten Mile Lake for the first time, there's a place for you in our community.

By Ten Mile Lake standards, I am a newcomer. My husband, Steve, and I built our house near Sandy Beach in 2013, a year we hope will mark the beginning of a long family history on this incredible lake. Our two sons and their wives currently live on either coast and our place here has become the family gathering spot for holidays and those sweet moments of summer fun. Yes, Ten Mile Lake is beautiful and the water and fishing are unparalleled, but one of the things that I value most about it is that our lake is what I think of as a generational lake – a special place that works its way onto the center of your life and then casts its net across generations.

This generational aspect of Ten Mile is important to me because I moved a lot when I was a kid. California, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have all been home to me at one point. I am a 1980 graduate of Ames High School in Ames, Iowa and a 1984 graduate of Carleton College. I have work experience in human resources and accounting, but my main occupation has been raising our two sons and now helping to care for our four elderly parents. Like many mothers, I served as a volunteer in my kids’ schools and on several church and community committees. I then ran for election in 2000 and served on the Minnetonka School Board for 12 years. I enjoyed helping high-performing organizations become better and I look forward to continuing that work with the wonderful people already involved with TMLA.

My earliest Ten Mile memories are of idyllic summers at my grandmother Finley’s cabin on Chariton Beach, swimming and skiing with summer friends whose parents and grandparents were friends with mine. These generation-spanning relationships are a common story here, and I believe a big part of what keeps Ten Mile so special. My husband, John, loved the lake from his very first visit during our college years, so Ten Mile naturally became our family’s summer vacation destination. After years sharing the Finley cabin with my extended family, John and I built a cabin across the lake in 2009, forming new summer and winter memories on the southeast shore. Our grandchildren are fifth-generation Ten Milers, and the lake remains our favorite place to gather with family and friends. In summer 2026, we transitioned to year-round lake life, thankful to call Ten Mile and the community our full-time home.

John and I raised our kids and made our careers in Kansas City, where my work focused entirely in the not-for-profit sector with social services and arts organizations. I enjoyed many professional and volunteer leadership roles with that generous community.

I served on the TMLA board from 2015 to 2021 and then joined the Loon Committee, coordinating the Loon Watcher Surveys for several years. I rejoined the board in 2025, honored to help lead and champion our lake association. I love working with the many dedicated Ten Milers committed to preserving the lake’s enduring legacy for future generations.

My great-grandfather came here to fish in 1926 and bought 1.25 miles of shoreline on the north side of the lake. He and his friends from Chariton, Iowa settled what became known as Chariton Beach. He brought materials and a builder up from his lumber yard in Iowa, but my grandpa spent his teenage summers peeling pines for the beams and gathering rocks to building the fireplace after dynamiting the road. The Eikenberrys are the only original owners left from 1926. As teachers, my parents gave us the great gift of lengthy summers at the lake.

I am a school librarian in the Twin Cities and continue to spend much of the summer at the cabin. I joined the board in 2021 after serving as the chair of Communications and Technology. In 2026, I became the board secretary. My mission is the get younger generations involved in the lake as more than just a place to vacation; through social media and social events, we hope to encourage more people to join us in protecting our beautiful lake!

ADVISORY - PAST PRESIDENT

Anne and I have been seasonal residents on Ten Mile since 1993. Our cabin, built in 2003, is in Long Bay.  I chair the Conservation Committee and also serve as a member of the Northern Waters Land Trust Conservation Committee.

I’m a retired CPA who keeps busy with fishing, teaching at St. John’s University as an adjunct faculty, and several other board and volunteer roles.  During my working career I also maintained an active involvement with nonprofit boards.  I’ve served as board chair of a chamber of commerce, a hospital, a K-12 school system and the Minnesota Society of CPAs, among others.  I continue to enjoy working with the great group of volunteer committee and board members who make the Ten Mile Lake Association one of the best in the state.  The best retirement gig of all, however, is having our three kids and seven grandkids visit us on beautiful Ten Mile Lake.

TREASURER

ROXY MOON

I am kind of a newbie on Ten Mile Lake as we came to the lake in 2007.  We followed our best friends, the Blommes, knowing in our heart that Ten Mile was eventually where we wanted to spend our retirement years.  After thirty-five years in the accounting profession I retired in 2013 and after 59 years in our home town of Marshall, Minnesota we made Ten Mile Lake our permanent residence in May, 2015.

During my accounting career I was a tax accountant and an auditor for ten years including the auditing of several non-profit entities.  The second decade of my career was spent as the accountant for SSU Foundation, a non-profit entity I had previously audited.  The last fifteen years of my working career I was the Finance Manager for the local community utility.  I am married to my wonderful husband, Kenny of 48 years, with three daughters and five beautiful grandchildren.
